This 8-mile circular walk in Essex features a castle, Olympic venue, panoramic views of Thames estuary and Kent plus a scenic fishing village. New organisers are leading their first walk for the group. Walk starts from Benfleet and follows Hadleigh Downs towards the 2012 Olympic mountain bike circuit. Great views from medal podium plus cafe on site. We then head east to Hadleigh Castle (free to enter) which has defended the region since the 13th century. We descend to the charming resort of Leigh on Sea, full of sea front pubs and cafes. We return to start via sea wall path, passing several notable vessels on the way. Route with minor climbs with some muddy sections.
Refreshments
Mid-morning tea stop and lunch stop. Option for pub stop in Benfleet after the walk.
Travel
Train departs Fenchurch Street 9:49am for Benfleet. Free parking in nearby streets.
