Activity
This 6-mile walk starts with a quick trip to the unexpectedly beautiful Hindu temple in Alperton. The mandir took 14 years to build, is made entirely of imported Indian limestone and has elaborate carvings throughout the interior. We then join the Grand Union Canal. Hard to believe you can go from such epic architecture to pastoral canal in the space of a few minutes! The canal walk features canal boats, wildfowl, lifeboats and a tranquil golf course. Next stop is Horsenden Farm which is now a visitor centre and events venue. We can see the goats, beehives and a collection of field mice. Refreshments at the Horsenden Loaf Café and Perivale Brewery. Then onto the Gruffalo Way and uphill to admire the amazing views of London from Horsenden Hill. Route returns to start via canal. Option to leave walk at Horsenden Hill; buses stop outside the farm. Please wear suitable footwear as Horsenden Hill can be muddy and slippery underfoot. Dogs cannot be taken into the temple so dog walkers will need to wait outside if joining the walk.
Refreshments
Lots of Indian street food shops in Alperton and café / brewery at Horsenden Hill. Option for restaurant meal in Alperton at end of walk.
