Activity
This 8-mile walk takes in historic villages, a religious retreat, a sailing reservoir and aerodrome. We walk from Watford on the Ver valley trail. This follows the Ver River through meadows before joining the Herts Way. We then reach the first village of Aldenham. This has an impressive medieval church and has often been featured in period films as Elstree Studios is nearby. We head south to Letchmore Heath, another scenic village with village green, pond and pub. The HQ of the Hare Krishna movement is located next to the village. Aim to have lunch at pub or picnic by green. Walk then continues through Elstree Aerodrome to Aldenham Country Park. The sailing reservoir was created in 1795 due to fears of water shortage resulting from canal building. We continue east through golf course and viewpoints to end at Elstree and Borehamwood Station.
