Activity

Historical cycle ride from Chelsea harbour to Tower Hill, majority on traffic-free new cycle routes, approx 16 miles. Start point has Lime and Boris bike hiring hub. Therefore perfect for those without your own cycles. We will explore Cheyne Walk with its "Blue Plaque Heaven" of artists, then cross Thames via the aesthetically stunning Albert Bridge (now closed to vehicles so perfect for us cyclists). We will explore Battersea Park and find the still visible signs of the 1951 Festival of Britain. We will cycle around the new riverside promenade serving the Power Station development. Then circling the bucolic delights of the US Embassy with its inviting moat. We then can admire the Belgravia quarter with its many hidden squares of Georgian mansions. Then will take the network of cycle lanes through Whitehall, St James Park and onto Westminster Abbey. We will stop at the Green outside Westminster Palace where the leader will explain the history of the Houses of Parliament and the famous statues of the great and the good. We then join the Embankment cycle superhighway, alongside the Thames, all traffic-free with great views of the South Bank, London Eye, Whitehall and Somerset House. We will end at Tower Pier with an option for refreshments at the many riverside cafes.
