Activity
This 6-mile linear walk takes in historic quarters of London's Docklands, Limehouse and an exhibition at the newly expanded Docklands Museum of London. We start by Paul's café by the Tower of London, with great views of the oldest Royal Palace, under Tower Bridge to St Katharine Docks. This was the location of St Katharine's Hospital, a medieval establishment. London Docklands were created after 1800 to substantially increase the capacity of the largest port in the world at that time. St Katharine's was the first to close, in 1968, due to containerisation. We continue via Thames Riverside passing several converted wharves and historic pubs including Prospect of Whitby and the Grapes. Coffee stop at the Yurt Café at Limehouse. We continue to the Museum of London's Docklands location, in a converted Georgian building. The museum is free, with lots of displays on the history of London as a trading superpower. Option to visit the current exhibition "How Jewish Londoners Shaped Global Style". This explains how Jewish refugees from Europe came to the East End and made London an iconic fashion city. Many exhibits including the creations of Mr Fish and the famous coat of Dot Cotton.
