Pennines Part 2

Date: Thu-Fri Jul 14th-22nd

Organisers: David and Erika

Cost: £239 per person for the whole week's accommodation. 3 male and 3 female places available on a first come first serve basis on receipt of full payment. Extra spaces may be available but cost could vary slightly (£10 event surcharge payable by casuals)

Activities: The walk is from south to north starting at Horton-in-Ribblesdale in the Yorkshire Dales and finishing at Greenhead by Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland. 100 miles in total through the Yorkshire dales and over some challenging terrain. Highlights include Wensleydale, Tan Hill, Cross Fell, High Force, Cauldron Snout, High Cup Nick and Hadrian's Wall. Daily distances are 13, 15.5, 18.5, 19.5, 18.5, and 16 miles with a rest day in the middle. There are a lot of hills with long ascents and hard going underfoot. The challenge is just as much a mental one as a physical one. Can you keep going when your body wants you to stop? There is one day's rest in Middleton in Teesdale where we stop for 2 nights and public transport is always an option if you really can't walk on one of the days. A Sherpa service is available on this section. Each bag costs £8 per transfer. We will book this as a group once numbers are confirmed. Otherwise carry everything with you but pack light.

Refreshments: Breakfast is included in the price on 5 of the days. Available at extra charge at the YHA's we stay in on the others. Many have evening meal options but local pubs and restaurants are also available. Packed lunches are also available.

Travel: By train: From London King's Cross to the start point at Horton-in-Ribblesdale via Leeds. Journey time approx 4 hours. Return from Haltwhistle to London King's Cross via Newcastle. Journey time 4 hr 40 mins.

Accommodation: A mixture of YHAs, hotels and B&Bs. Includes accommodation the night before the walk begins to ensure an early start and the night after the walk finishes allowing an overnight rest before heading home on Friday.
