Goring and Mapledurham Walk

Cost: Free (quarterly surcharge payable by casuals)

Activity: A comfortably paced, 13.5 mile circular walk starting and finishing at Goring-on-Thames. This walk starts off along the river for about 1.5 miles before turning inland through woodland. Via Whitchurch-on-Thames, Mapledurham, the hamlet of Nuney Green and Crays Pond. Moderate walk with some steep parts. Suggest good footwear and possibly waterproofs or sunscreen, depending on our good British weather!

Refreshments: No pubs en-route unfortunately, so suggest packed lunch and something to drink. Will probably look to stop near Mapledurham for lunch.

Travel: By car: M4 J12, A4 West (Theale), A340 Pangbourne, A329 Streatley, B4009 Goring. 1 hour 11 mins from Harrow, 49 miles. Parking at Goring and Streatley station, Gatehampton Road, RG8 0EP. 110 spaces, £2.10/day. Or Wheel Orchard car park, Ferry Lane, RG8 9HB. 57 spaces, £3.30 >10 hours. By train: £17.50 return from London Paddington via Reading. Outward: 08:45 London Paddington platform 2 to Reading 09:10 platform 4 (25 mins), 09:23 Reading platform 8 to Goring and Streatley 09:36 platform 3 (13 mins); Return trains run at 12 and 42 mins past the hour, so possibly the 17:42 or later: 17:42 Goring and Streatley to Reading 17:57 platform 9 (15 mins), 18:13 Reading platform 5 to London Paddington 18:39 platform 1 (26 mins)

Start: 10:00am prompt at Goring and Streatley station, Gatehampton Road, Oxfordshire, Goring, RG8 0EP

Finish: Around 5:00-5:30pm at start point
