Chiltern Hills Road Cycle Ride
Date: Sun Feb 1st
Organiser: Aidan
Where: 25 mile road cycle ride
Cost: Free (quarterly surcharge payable by casuals)
Activity: The pace will be set to ensure that no one gets left behind but a reasonable level of fitness will be useful! The route is about 45k long and is hilly in places but most of the steep ones are relatively short, one in particular sedately named White Hill is a killer! We will avoid the main roads as much as possible and therefore most of the ride will be along country lanes with some nice rolling scenery.
The circular route will leave Amersham and go through Little Missenden rise up to Chartridge and Ashridge, then Cholesbury and eventually into Berkhamsted. For anyone who does not want to do the whole distance there is a convenient mid-way spot in Hawridge where a route leads back to Chesham and Amersham.
There is a steep climb out of the town as the route heads up to Whelpley Hill and meanders down to cross the river Chess with another stiff climb up to Amersham and the finish. Costa coffee and sticky buns could be welcome at the end!
Road bikes or mountain bikes are both okay. If you plan to come along and are running late please call or send a text.
Refreshments: There are lots of places to stop and get refreshments but depending on timing lunch could be had by the canal opposite the old Norman motte and bailey in the town. There is a pub also on the canal and it does a carvery lunch from midday until 5pm so for anyone not wishing to pack a lunch this is an option
