Possibly heading east to Church Stretton, those who went on our Wilderhope-Manor weekend last year will remember this as our midway point when we headed west towards it. Sunday activity/distance up for grabs. South Shropshire has been described as one of the last remaining rural idylls and after a stay in this old village school, you will see why. Those choosing to walk on the nearby Shropshire Way will see wild ponies, woodpeckers, skylarks and plenty of birds of prey. On wet days visit the charming market towns of Ludlow, Much Wenlock or Bishop's Castle. There's also the Acton Scott working farm and museum close by. In the evenings, sample our home-cooked menus or visit the pub next door. The pub is described as an excellent live music venue and we have been advised to book tables/food if we want to eat there on the Saturday evening. Refreshments: The venue offers self catering facilities, and in house cooked breakfast, lunch, dinner service (usual hostel prices). Nearest village shop is 3 miles, so come prepared, wait until village/town on route, or purchase lunch from hostel Travel: Travel time from north west London probably 2.5 hours, car sharing etc to be arranged the week before. Main route by road from Harrow: M40 north to Birmingham, M42 north, M6 north, M54 west, A5 south, A49 south, B4371, B5477 then few local roads. Postcode SY5 0SP Accommodation: 12 places in the last 3 exclusive rooms (1*2 bed, 1* 4 bed, 1*6 bed) at YHA Bridges-Long-Mynd in Shropshire. The hostel is described as an "Old village school in the beautiful Shropshire Hills. Tranquil and basic." There is a possibility of swapping with some larger rooms if more than 12 people. However, the 2 and 4 bed rooms are en-suite, new, and have own outside access - so might just limit to 12 Links: |
