Austria Week - St Gilgen

Cost: Accommodation: for example, staying in a twin room with shower (per person for the week) would cost: 150.50 euro (B/B x 7 days); 180.50 euro (HB x 5 days & B/B x 2 days); 231.00 euro (FB x 7 days) (£10 event surcharge payable by casuals). As beds and air tickets are going fast, deposit of £90 will be required to proceed with the hostel booking.
Activities: We will be hiking and sightseeing in and around St. Gilgen and further afield. Great opportunity to visit places of interest during this trip (NOT included in price):
- Take a walk in the Austrian lakes
- Pedal across the undulating terrain of Austria's most spectacular alpine landscapes on the inspiring self-guided cycling adventure along the well marked 'Mozart trail'
- Visit the largest ice caves in the world - Werfen Ice Caves
- Visit Kehlsteinhaus, better known as Hitler's retreat, the Eagles Nest in Berchtesgaden
- Visit the salt mines in Hallstatt
- Summer toboggan run in Hof and in Strobl
- Folklore Museum, Museum of Musical Instruments, Mozart Memorial, and the Museum of the "Zinkenbach Colony of Painters"
- Catch up on nature in the "Arboretum" or in the Village of Animals in Abersee
- Trips to St. Wolfgang, Strobl, Bad Ischl, Mondsee or Salzburg
Refreshments: Daily breakfast buffet (included in price). Half board and full board optional extra - also for vegetarians. In summer hostel arrange barbecues once a week.
Travel: Make own travel arrangements between UK > Salzburg or Vienna Airport > Youth Hostel St. Gilgen.

- By rail: 30km - Salzburg - bus terminal opposite the station, bus number 3000 to St Gilgen (Salzburg main station or train station Bad Ischl)

Stay at Youth Hostel St. Gilgen - Affectionately built in regional style, a treasure of Austria's Lake District, the Salzkammergut. Situated at the lake Wolfgangsee in the Austrian state of Salzburg, close to Strobl and to the Upper Austrian municipality of St. Wolfgang. People staying at the hostel have free admission to the swimming pool and bathing beach opposite. Buffet breakfast and bedclothes are included. Please bring your own towels. Hostel facilities include cable TV, table tennis and tabletop football, two very good technically equipped conference rooms, five comfortable lounges and a cellar bar with disco and car park.
The UNESCO World Heritage listed Salzkammergut alpine region of Austria encompasses 76 crystal clear lakes, the Dachstein Glacier, lush summer meadows and impressive rock faces up to 3000 vertical metres high. During the inspiring walk, there is ample time to appreciate the natural beauty of the region and the alpine villages of wooden chalets decorated with colourful window boxes. The unique lake and mountain scenery offers a wide range of leasuretime activities includes: cycling and mountain-biking, running, Nordic-Walking, inline-skating, climbing, hiking, paragliding, golfing, horseback riding and horse carriage rides, with a variety of water sport like water-skiing, surfing, rowing, sailing, Para-Sailing, scuba diving, boat trips and sun bathing.
