Amersham Ambling

Date: Sun Jun 20th

Organiser: Emma H

Overview: Amersham on the Hill - Little Missenden - Old Amersham: this 8 mile walk crosses the beautiful Misbourne Valley, passing through beechwoods at the start, which open to a remarkable view of fascinating Old Amersham, full of historical and architectural interest. To the west of Amersham is the Shardeloes Estate, the house designed by Robert Adam in 1758 for the Drake family but which is now divided into flats. The grounds were laid out by Repton, who created Shardeloes Lake, home to a wide variety of waterfowl. The walk explores the Shardeloes Estate using an ancient green lane which leads down into the idyllic village of Little Missenden, with its medieval church containing 13th Century wall paintings and its 16th century manor-house. And of course there is a pub! Start and end point Amersham station (Chiltern/Met line).
