100 Magical Miles
Date: Fri-Sun Jul 16th-25th
Organiser: David H
Cost: £193 per person for the whole week's accommodation. 4 male and 2 female places available on a first come first serve basis on receipt of full payment. Extra spaces may be available but cost could vary slightly. (£10 event surcharge payable by casuals).
Activities: The walk is from south to north starting at Edale in the Peak District and finishing at Horton-in-Ribblesdale in the Yorkshire Dales. 100 miles in total across varied landscapes- Kinder Scout, Bleaklow Head, Blackstone Edge, Stoodley Pike, Top Withins, Malham Cove and Pen-y-ghent are just some of the highlights. A real challenge including some steep climbs, but with long summer evenings and a maximum distance per day of 16 miles easily manageable with a reasonable level of fitness. No Sherpa service is available on the route so all gear needs to be carried, however only packed lunches are required as breakfast and dinner is available at the overnight stops and washing and drying facilities mean you can cut down on the amount of clothing you need to take. There is one day's rest in Haworth where we stop for 2 nights and public transport is always an option if you really can't walk on one of the days.
Refreshments: Breakfast is included in the price on 3 of the days. Available at extra charge at the YHA's we stay in on the others. Many have evening meal options but local pubs and restaurants are also available. Packed lunches are also available.
Travel: By train: From London St. Pancras to the start point at Hathersage via Sheffield. Journey time 2 hrs 37 mins. Alternatively from London Euston via Manchester 3 hrs 20 mins but slightly cheaper. Return from Horton-in-Ribblesdale to London Kings Cross via Leeds and York. Journey time 4 hrs.
By car: It is possible to return to Hathersage from Horton-in-Ribblesdale if you drive to the start. Parking at station is free. Return journey time is 4 hrs but much cheaper than rail fare to London. Rail fares/times are available from the National Rail Enquires website.
By coach/train: The cheapest option is to take the National Express coach to Sheffield and then the train to Hathersage. Return by train from Horton-in-Ribblesdale to Skipton or Leeds and return to London on the coach. See the National Express website for details.
Accommodation: A mixture of YHAs and B&Bs. Includes accommodation the night before the walk begins to ensure an early start and the night after the walk finishes allowing an overnight rest before heading home on Sunday.
